HEART TO HEART: An Afternoon with Joel Beeke
PREACHING THAT PRESSES GOD'S WORD ON PEOPLE's LIVES
God uses faithful preachers to brightly illuminate the truth and ignite in people’s hearts a love for it. Classic Reformed preaching aims for precisely that, opening the meaning of the Scriptures with clear teaching that pointedly addresses Christian experience and practical obedience. This requires preachers to first receive God’s Word into their own beliefs, consciences, affections, and practical lives, so they can, by God’s grace, then preach it with similar results to their hearers. But how can we learn to do that? Joel Beeke will bring lessons he has learned from the Reformers and Puritans.
Dr Beeke is an experienced pastor, professor, scholar and author. He has recently written Reformed Preaching: Proclaiming God’s Word for the heart of the preacher to the heart of His people. This book draws on the rich history of Reformed experiential preaching, from the Reformers, to the Puritans, and through to Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He has written over 100 books. Dr Beeke is President on Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids. Dr Beeke’s new book Reformed Preaching, along with several other titles, will be available for purchase.
